Market Days

Violet Town Market.JPGEach weekend across Victoria people gather to share produce, promote their home based and niche businesses in one of the many markets held across the State. Recently I travelled along to one of North East Victorias’ oldest markets at Violet Town at the foot of the Strathbogie ranges.

The Violet Town market was founded in 1978 and is one of the best markets in the State with a focus on sustainable living. With over 250 stall holders selling everything from fresh produce, art, crafts and furniture there is sure to be something to tempt you to part with a little cash or simply browse and chat to stall holders and locals whilst enjoying your coffee.

On my recent visit I bumped into Erin and Colm the owners of Ripple Craft, a small business based in nearby Shepparton who make items of furniture for the home, office and cafe scene that is trendy, functional and also beautiful. Where possible they use Australian made and manufactured items, and reclaimed wood and materials. Their stuff really caught my eye and its worth your time to have a look at what they do. They get along to several markets across the State – keep an eye out for them in your patch or check them out at  ripplecraft.com.au

This is a market that is popular with locals and visitors alike, with many people travelling from across the Region each month. The market is held at the recreation reserve in Tulip St on the 2nd Saturday of every month from 8.30am. Afterwards explore the antique shops or take some of the produce from the market up into the Strathbogie Ranges and enjoy a picnic at Gooram Falls, Polly McQuinns or Mt Wombat.
